ALFRED ADLER INSTITUTE IN SUISSE ROMANDE

Board & Faculty

The Alfred Adler Institute in Suisse Romande is guided by a small, dedicated group of clinicians and administrators committed to the classical Adlerian tradition.

Erik Mansager, PhD, LCPC

CO-FOUNDER - BOARD MEMBER - TRAINING ANALYST

Erik Mansager is a co-founder of the Alfred Adler Institute in Suisse Romande and a committed scholar and practitioner of Classical Adlerian depth psychology. A prolific writer and presenter at national and international venues, he has devoted his career to deepening the understanding of Adler's original vision and to its transmission to a new generation of clinicians.

His engagement with Henry Stein's work convinced him that the classical tradition needed a European home - one that could introduce more clinicians to the depth and sophistication of Adler's original formulation. That conviction gave rise to this Institute. At the Institute, Erik serves as lead training analyst — the scholarly and clinical anchor of the program.

He maintains an active psychotherapy practice while participating fully in the life of the institute: teaching and supervising, facilitating biweekly group supervision, leading the Adlerian book group in its careful reading of difficult original texts, and guiding interns through the complexities of classical Adlerian clinical work. Erik holds a Doctorate in depth psychology specializing in the Psychology of Religion from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, a Master's degree in Counselling from the University of Arizona, and a Bachelor's degree in Humanities from St. Thomas Theological Seminary in Denver. He is a licensed clinical professional counselor, a certified Classical Adlerian Depth Psychotherapist, and a CADP Training Analyst.

His institutional career has encompassed clinical leadership, agency direction, and faculty positions at Adler University in Chicago, St. John's Seminary College, and Webster University in Geneva. A past President of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology and a NASAP Diplomate, he served the broader Adlerian community in governance for many years before turning his full attention to classical study and training.

His publications include journal articles, books and book chapters, training manuals, and monographs. He has served as guest editor of the Journal of Individual Psychology, collaborating in six special issues. Three issues deal with various expressions of Individual Psychology practice: Classical Adlerian Depth work (2014); the broad variety of approaches and expressions among current Adlerian practitioners (2022); and a third that provides detailed case presentations highlighting similarities and differences among the three primary versions of Adlerian therapy (2026). The other three issues highlight Adlerian influences and contributions to social justice (2009), LGBT affirmation (2008), and spirituality (2000). Erik has published extensively on the intersection of psychology and spirituality.

Jane Pfefferlé, MA, NCC

CO-FOUNDER - BOARD MEMBER - TRAINING ANALYST

Jane Pfefferlé is a co-founding board member and director of the Alfred Adler Institute in Suisse Romande and a Classical Adlerian Depth Psychotherapist certified through the Alfred Adler Institute of Northwestern Washington, where she studied under Dr. Henry Stein. She holds a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counselling from Webster University, Geneva, and maintains a private practice serving both English and French-speaking clients across the cantons of Geneva and Vaud.

Jane brings an unusually rich formation to her clinical work. Before pursuing psychology, she studied voice and music theory at the Conservatoire of Lausanne, earning a Certificat Supérieur and a graduate diploma with the Société Suisse de Pédagogie Musicale. That background — attentive to tone, register, and the subtleties of human expression — informs both her clinical presence and her longstanding interest in the psychological dimensions of the voice.

At the Institute, Jane participates in the oversight and governance of the training program and contributes to student supervision and training. As a talented polyglot, Jane is a vital resource in the Institute’s translation projects. Her deep grounding in Adlerian theory and her commitment to its careful transmission make her an important presence in the life of the Institute and in the formation of its students.

She is a Nationally Certified Counselor, a member of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology, and a member of the Schweizerischer Gesellschaft für Beratung.

Jinger Hayes, MEd, LPC

CO-FOUNDER - BOARD MEMBER - TRAINING ANALYST

Jinger Hayes is a co-founder and director of the Alfred Adler Institute in Suisse Romande, and a Classical Adlerian Depth Psychotherapist certified through the Alfred Adler Institute of Northwestern Washington. She holds a Master's Degree in Mental Health Counselling from the University of Houston and is licensed and nationally certified in the United States.

Her clinical work focuses on individuals and families navigating adjustment, crisis, and transition - with particular experience in adolescent psychology, parental and sibling bereavement, divorce, and expatriation. While in Switzerland, she worked closely with several international schools in Canton Vaud and is a committed advocate for parent education as a preventive tool in mental health.

At the institute, Jinger brings a distinctive combination of clinical experience and institutional leadership. She participates actively in the training and supervision of students - contributing to the design of their curated development, co-facilitating the biweekly group supervision meetings and the Adlerian book club, and helping to evaluate each student's progress through the program.

Her prior career in business - as an accountant and stock analyst, and later in professional mentorship and training - informs her stewardship of the institute's operational and strategic direction. Together with her husband Steve Hayes, she provides business oversight to the organization's pursuit of international accreditation, compliance with Swiss law, and responsible financial management.

Steve Hayes, MPA, CPA

CO-FOUNDER - BOARD MEMBER - CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER

Steve Hayes serves the Institute as its Chief Administrative Officer, providing strategic guidance, proper governance, financial discipline, and effective communication. He also provides oversight in matters of compliance and accreditation.

A certified public accountant, Steve holds a Master's of Professional Accounting degree in Taxation from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor's of Business Administration from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.

He began his career in public accounting with Arthur Andersen & Co. and has spent the majority of his professional life in the energy industry, serving in senior management of major multinational corporations for nearly three decades.

His experience encompasses international tax structuring, tax accounting and reporting, corporate governance, government relations, asset management, budgeting, internal controls, and capital structure.

In his second chapter, Steve has turned his considerable experience toward the betterment of his community. He serves as Chairman of the Board of a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the mountain communities of Colorado — addressing food scarcity, job insecurity, access to mental health care, and early childhood education. It is work that reflects, in its own way, the Adlerian conviction that genuine wellbeing is inseparable from one's responsibility to the wider community.
